Unique Wedding Guest Book Made with Paint Swatches
A friend of ours is getting married this weekend and wanted a really unique alternative to the traditional wedding guest book. I was happy to pitch in with an inexpensive DIY guest book idea that also served as a decoration for the reception and was easy to make. And bonus — it would also be easy for the bride and groom to save as a keepsake for years to come.
The inspiration came from some gorgeous paint chips, which I picked out in colors that matched their cheerful wedding theme.
I trimmed the paint chips down to 2.5" wide...
...which happened to be the largest size that would fit into my paper tag punch, which I used to quickly turn them into cute tags.
To display the tags, I got a big piece of thin wood and painted it white.
I laid the tags out on the wood as straight as I could, leaving some extra space at the top for a sign that I would add later.
Then I used a pencil to make a dot in the middle of each tag's hole, marking where I would need to add a hook to hand the tag from.
I pre-drilled each hole and then screwed in a 7/8" white cup hook.
I chose cup hooks (versus nails) because they have an almost full-circle shape that will work great for holding the tags in place if the wind picks up. If I had just used straight nails, there would surely be tags flying everywhere as soon as a breeze blows by!
Then I hung the tags onto the hooks, arranging them in an hombre style. Don't worry about being limited by the number of hooks versus your guest count — these hooks can easily hold many tags on each one, so load 'em up!
With the tags all hung, the next thing I need to do was address that blank space at the top.
I used my Silhouette to create a "Please sign our Guest Book" .STUDIO file and cut it out of adhesive vinyl.
I applied the vinyl to the top of the board (P.S. vinyl transfer tape is a lifesaver!)
At the wedding, guests can just take a blank tag and write their own message on it...
...then hang it back up on one of the hooks. So easy!
And the board is so pretty too! Propped up on an easel or hung on the wall, it's a beautiful piece of decor that welcomes your guests.
The best part is that it's super customizable because the paint chips come in any color under the sun. You can mix and match them, or choose monochromatic or hombre colors to suit your wedding's theme and style.
The other best part about this alternative guest book idea is that it's really easy to save the tags after the wedding, as a keepsake! Just take them off and slip a binder ring through the holes.
Your tags will all stay together and can easily be looked through any time you wish.
