Vintage Hershey's Kisses Valentine Gifts
Even though school is remote this year, my daughters still wanted to hand out some special Valentines this year to a few friends. I thought I would come up with something a little bit over the top, and create a fun and unique Valentine's Day gift that focused on the classic Hershey's Kisses. My idea started when I found a vintage Hershey's Kisses label designed by Tina Schofield that we all loved.
I just needed a container to put the Kisses in and to put the label on. When I saw my kids eating Pringles, inspiration struck. The image was almost the perfect size for a mini Pringles can already — I just altered it slightly to make the background wider so that it would wrap fully around the can. I'm To make your own, just download my edited file and print as many copies as you need.
After wiping the can clean, I wrapped the label around it and simply taped it in the back. I wanted to make the lid opaque instead of clear, so I traced it onto some coordinating card stock, cut out the circle, and put it inside the lid. The fit was tight enough to hold on its own but you can use a tiny bit of glue or double-sided tape if needed.
At this point, you just need to fill them with Hershey's Kisses and then hand them out. See how cute and easy they are to make?
But I didn't stop there. Remember, I wanted to be extra! Mind you, if I had to make dozens of these for all my daughters' classmates, I would just do the labels and call it a day. But since I only needed a handful, I decided to keep going, and decorate the top of the can even more.
I found an adorable mini mailbox in the floral section at Hobby Lobby, among their line of products for creating fairy gardens. To "install" it on my can, I just poked a small hole in the lid and stuck the mailbox post in.
While my girls were busy making me lots of tiny envelopes, I took one of them and hot glued it to the mailbox, coming out of the slot.
Then I glued a short piece of thin but fairly stiff wire to the underside of the first envelope.
This gave me a way to attach other envelopes to make it look like they were spilling out of the mailbox.
In that same section of Hobby Lobby, I found a sweet little terrier figuring. He was so cute, but I had to do some surgery on him to remove the butterfly that was on his nose. It actually popped off quite easily using a utility knife.
Now he is balancing a love letter on his nose instead of that butterfly! I put a little hot glue on his bottom to attach him to the lid, and added a few more letters nearby to finish off the scene.
Just as with the simple version, these decorated versions just need to be filled with Hershey's Kisses, and they are ready to go. To personalize them, write the recipient's name on the envelope that is perched on the pooch's nose. The girls can't wait to deliver these to their friends!
