Use Vintage Containers to Make Christmas Decor
I love finding vintage containers at flea markets and thrift stores. In particular, I like using them for holiday decor - they add that touch of authentic nostalgia, especially when they are related to holiday baking.
I recently found a vintage flour sifter with a gorgeous label featuring soft teal and coral colors. It wasn't inherently Christmas-y, but I knew that the color scheme would work perfectly. With the addition of some custom-colored Sola wood flowers, it would make a charming arrangement to display in my kitchen.
There are so many different ways to color Sola Wood flowers and I have been having a blast experimenting. This time, I first soaked the flowers a little bit and then touched the tips of my Chalkola acrylic paint markers to the edges of the petals. The paint seeped down into the wet petals, creating a cool gradient effect.
I created teal and coral flowers to match the sifter label, and propped them on toothpicks to dry thoroughly.
Once dry, I used Craft Twinkles glitter paint to add a little bit of Christmas sparkle to my flowers.
To transform the sifter into a vase, I just tucked in a piece of floral foam, cut to size.
After securing the toothpicks into the flowers with a little hot glue, I tucked them into the foam, creating a cute arrangement.
Finally, I filled in any gaps with some sparkly Dollar Store floral picks to finish it off.
This sifter looks so perfect in my kitchen Christmas decor!
I didn't stop with this sifter, though. I also turned a vintage Christmas cookie tin into a base for a charming winter scene featuring a vintage snowman pick. It looks so cute sitting on my mantel.
