Transitional Dining Room Style Inspiration
After lots of thinking, planning, and scouring Pinterest, I've finally finished redecorating my dining room in a transitional style. With a mix of traditional and modern elements, I knew transitional was the right fit for us.
It was a huge transformation, and it all started with paint. I kept it super traditional here, since the room was already full of gorgeous trim and molding. I gave all the trim a fresh coat of white, then I painted the top half of the walls with a rich navy blue, and the bottom half with the perfect neutral greige.
Choosing a new light fixture was a huge part of the room's transformation, because the original one that came with the house was so incredibly dated. After reading up about chandeliers sizing and placement, I shopped around until I found the perfect chandelier from Lamps Expo.
The seeded glass shades are my absolute favorite part, and I used vintage-looking filament bulbs inside. I love how it looks against the modern, abstract art that I painted for the wall.
The table is one that I made several years ago when I refinished some reclaimed barnwood to make a new top for a modern table. The cushy chairs came from IKEA, and a worn-look area rug underneath pulled everything together.
For the centerpiece, Jo and I brainstormed about unique ways to bring a modern element to the table. I was inspired in a thrift store one day when I saw several teapots on the shelf. I visited all the other thrift stores in my area until I had enough for a collection, then I spray painted them all white.
How's that for making modern art from traditional items?
I'm so thrilled with how the room has come together. Jo will be the first to agree that it's time for me to host a dinner party!

Could you tell me more about the chandelier? Model name/number? Thank you!
Jocelyn, it was the Dakota 8-Light Oval Ring Chandelier
Can you tell me more about the wall art? Thanks!
Lily, I created that wall art using large canvases and acrylic paint. I applied the paint in layers, using a wide pallet knife to lightly and quickly scrape the paint across the surface. I wish I could give you more guidance, but I just kept applying layers until it looked like I wanted it to!
Blue paint color, please. Beautiful room!
Kimberly, thank you! The color is Deep Twilight Blue, by Valspar.
