Tarot Halloween Pumpkins for a Mystical Mantelscape
This year, I decided to give the mantle in my bedroom a mystical transformation for Halloween. I was inspired by tarot cards and Ouija boards, and really got creative! I wanted to still root the design in Halloween and fall decor, though, so I made sure to include traditional pumpkins as well.
I started with some simple, white, artificial pumpkins. I had trouble finding some that were small enough for what I wanted, until I stumbled into the floral section at my local craft store. I hit the jackpot with some pumpkin picks intended for centerpieces.
These guys were the perfect shape and size and all I did was use my pliers to yank out the floral pick from the bottom.
To decorate the pumpkins, I started with some tarot card images that I found online. I scaled to the correct size, printed them on regular paper, and cut them out.
Then I used some Decou-Page to adhere the card images to the pumpkins. The paper did wrinkle a bit as I applied it to the rounded surface, but that's pretty unavoidable, so I didn't worry about it. Besides, I think it looks more aged and spooky when it's a little crinkly.
I did a few white pumpkins and a few black ones, and gathered them on the mantle. I love this spooky collection.
To create a garland for the mantle, I found and printed images of a Ouija planchette. Then I used one of them as a pattern to trace and cut more planchette-shaped pieces from pictures of a Ouija board. I strung them up and love the mix of the two patterns, and it really brings the mantle together.
To round out the mantle, I added candles and a few creepy knickknacks, along with a few books with fake covers featuring mystical titles. I finished it off with a giant palm-reading poster for the perfect mystical mantlescape.
