Mason Jar Storage for S'mores
I recently spotted some cute wooden crates at my local Michaels craft store, and nearby there were large Ball Mason jars that just so happened fit perfectly inside. With such a happy discovery, I knew right away I had to turn it into a gift set of some sort. I instantly thought of s'mores, and knew I could use the three jars to store chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers.
I soon realized that with some craft paint, I could turn this functional s'mores storage solution into a charming s'mores gift. I reached for my favorite multi-surface craft paint in colors that coordinated with the ingredients — Coffee Bean for the chocolate, Brown Sugar for the graham crackers, and White Birch for the marshmallows.
I painted the jar lids with these colors, using a cosmetic wedge to dab the paint on.
This is the best technique to use for this paint when working with a slick surface like metal or glass. It gives the paint a little "tooth" which helps a lot when applying subsequent coats, and you get a nice smooth finish with no brushstrokes. I did three light coats of each of my colors.
To give the wooden crate some style and a little contrast, I painted it with School Bus on the inside and Paprika on the outside.
When the paint was all dry, I filled the jars with plenty of Hershey's chocolate bars, graham crackers, and marshmallows. It's such a cute and chic way to display my favorite dessert ingredients.
This is also a great gift idea for a s'mores lover, or for a cute way to take s'mores supplies to a firepit or campfire on a chilly evening.

You should have decoupaged parts of the packages on the top bar of the crate, overlapping casually: candy bar / graham cracker / marshmallow. Otherwise . . . looks great! (I am thinking of something similar for my coffee area at work: can of coffee, filters, creamer.)
Where did you find flat marshmallows? Thanks
Karen, we found them at the grocery store. Not sure if it was a limited release or a long-term product, but check around and hopefully you can find them!
So very cute! I would like to do mini s’mores kits as wedding favors (they’ll be a bonfire at venue). Will the mason jars keep Graham crackers fresh? How many days in advance? Thanks!
Sue, that's a fun idea! As long as they have an air-tight seal, Mason jars should be able to keep the crackers fresh. You might run some tests now to see how long they'll stay fresh so you know how far ahead you can make them before the wedding.
