Scandinavian Fabric Stars Tutorial
We love the clean, simplistic lines of Scandinavian design, and wanted to add some traditional Scandinavian stars to our holiday decor this year. Turns out they are pretty easy to make with some strips of fabric, and the best part is that no sewing is required! We love how easy these fabric stars are to create and customize with any color.
Materials needed to make a fabric star
To create your own fabric Scandinavian stars, all you need is four pieces of coordinating fabric and an iron. You can use the same fabric for all four pieces, or mix and match for a fun design.
To determine how big each piece of fabric should be, decide how large you want your finished star to be, then use our handy formula to determine fabric size:
Scandinavian star fabric size formula:
- The width of the fabric should be the same as the desired width of your finished star
- The length of the fabric should be the width times 4.25
For example: To create a 4" star, each piece of fabric should be 4" wide and 17" long (4 times 4.25) and for a 6" star, each piece should be 6" x 25.5" (6 times 4.25). With this formula, you can make stars any size you wish.

Now on to the tutorial! Since this is such a hands-on project, photos just wouldn't do it justice, so I'm providing a video showing the complete process to create your own Scandinavian fabric star.

Combining fabric colors and patterns
I love subtle contrast on these stars, so I made a bunch of them with natural-colored muslin and a creamy white fabric. What a perfect look for Scandinavian holiday decor.
These stars are so easy to customize in any size and color, and make great holiday decorations for your walls, Christmas tree, or even gift packaging.

I watch several videos of the star and you’re easy for me to understand and do. I am left handed, and you went slow enough for me to transpose it. A lot of people talk so fast that it can be hard for a lifted handed person to keep up with visual directions. Thanks
Theresa, we're so glad you enjoyed our video! Thanks for the nice compliment :)
