Rattan Side Table Makeover
I found a little rattan side table at a yard sale and loved its charm. Though it had seen better days and the finish had worn off in spots, the cane top was in perfect condition. I knew I could give it a new life with a fresh color of spray paint, making it perfect to add to my screened-in porch.
I didn't want to paint the cane top so I used Glad Press'n Seal to cover the caning, and applied it to the top and underside to fully protect it from spray paint.
Then I used a sharp craft knife to trim around the edge to remove the excess plastic.
Then it was time to paint! To match my porch decor, I chose Rust-oleum's Coral in a gloss finish. What a bold and cheerful touch this would give to the space.
When I was done painting, I removed the Press'n Seal from the top. It did a great job of protecting the caning from overspray.
To restore the caning and protect it during use, I sprayed it with two coats of Rust-oleum Satin Clear Enamel.
This cute little table is now living its new life out on my screened-in porch. It fits the decor perfectly and provides a great surface for setting drinks.
And since the porch is mostly protected from the weather, I imagine it will hold up for quite a long time.
