Modern Fall Decor with Painted Acorns
I was helping my dad with yard work last weekend and noticed the back corner of his yard was covered in acorns. I could not resist the urge to gather them up for a project. Despite his fussing about me getting back to the real project at hand, I managed to gather a box full.
Even though they are lovely with their natural color, I thought I'd kick it up a few notches by painting them with a much more modern and trendy fall color palette. How fun would they be in solid bright shades of blue, green, orange and pink? So I set them out on some boxes in the yard and grabbed some Rust-Oleum 2X Ultra Cover spray paint. I started with a gorgeous deep wine-y pink.
I spray painted three more sets of acorns, in bright shades of orange, blue, and green.
Look how gorgeous the acorns look painted solid blue! I love them.
To display the acorns, I got four 5" x 7" acrylic box frames and removed the cardboard inserts.
I filled the boxes as full as I could with acorns, one color per box.
Then I cut a piece of cardboard to fit, spray painted it to match, and placed it on the back of the frame, to hold the acorns in.
A few pieces of transparent tape sealed it up perfectly. (Make sure you use the clear, plastic-y transparent tape, rather than the translucent, paper-y magic tape, or else the tape will be visible on the finished piece.)
Ooh, I really like where this is going!
To adorn the boxes, I got some simple wooden letters to spell FALL and spray painted them yellow.
Then I used some hot glue to attach the letters to the front of the frames.
I totally love this modern fall art on a mantle. The bright, trendy colors really pop and make fall seem so much more fun and festive.
