Spooky Cemetery Pumpkin Diorama for Halloween
It's almost Halloween time! And that, of course, means decorating pumpkins. I decided this year to take inspiration from the dioramas I used to make in school, and decorate a pumpkin on the inside instead of outside.
I started with a plain, black faux pumpkin from Michaels. I sketched out a design of a haunted house and tree and then used my Walnut Hollow hot knife to easily carve out my design.
The inside of my pumpkin would look like the night sky, so I painted it with a mixture of purple and black. Then to add stars, I reached for a string of poster lights. I just made holes on the back of the pumpkin with the hot knife, and poked the lights through. Then I just laid all the cords down flat and covered them with black duct tape to hide them.
I created a moon to hang from the sky by painting a small Styrofoam ball yellow. I hung it from the ceiling of the inside of the pumpkin with fishing line and a push pin.
To create a creepy landscape, I filled the bottom of the pumpkin with bits of dried moss.
Then I added a bunch of miniature tombstones and cemetery fencing that I found at the craft store. These were just perfect!
I set my finished pumpkin on a cake stand and added more of the moss around and miniatures on the outside.
My girls absolutely love it peering inside to see the stars, full moon, and cemetery.
This Halloween pumpkin diorama makes an exceptionally unique conversation piece in our house, and was a lot of fun to make, with just a few supplies.

My boys and I agree- THAT IS AWESOME! Thanks for sharing- guessin' Thing One and Thing Two are going to "force" me to help them do one now, too! :)
Little Jo helped me with this one and she had a great time.
