Giant Himmeli Star Decoration
Right now, we are loving the trend of Himmeli shapes in decorating and party supplies. For our New Year's Eve bash this year, we wanted to blow up the idea of Himmeli shapes into a statement-making piece of party decor! We started with a basic tutorial we found online for making a Himmeli star, but instead of using the standard paper straws or small tubes, we went bold with pieces of 3/4" PVC pipe.
The process for creating PVC pipe Himmeli art is the same as normal, just in larger scale. Cut the pipe to the desired length and use thin rope or cording (rather than the typical wire) to tie all of your pieces together.
The PVC pipe is far from attractive though so we wanted to paint it to look good for the party. We started with ColorShot spray primer that you can pick up at your local Home Depot store now!
Then we finished it off with a lush top coat of gold paint. We learned quickly the importance of shaking the can thoroughly, especially when using the metallic paint, in order to get a nice even coat. We also realized after that fact that this would have been a lot easier if we had painted the pipes BEFORE assembly, so we'll definitely do that next time!
We love the finished product, and this oversized, gold Himmeli star will certainly make a statement for our New Year's Eve party.
