Garage Sale Art Updated for Modern Outdoor Decor
I wanted some outdoor art for my front porch and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it, since it would most likely become damaged fairly quickly due to weather. I decided to modernize some inexpensive garage sale art by abstractly painting over it to freshen it up. I started scouring the neighborhood sales, and soon found a floral piece that would work well for the transformation, since it has large florals that would be easy to paint.
To maximize my chances of the piece lasting, I used acrylic paints that would work well outdoors, and I began painting over the existing art, simplifying the design and brightening it up.
To match my porch decor, I chose to add a bright teal to the background. I just swirled it on and added highlights with white. You really don't need to have fine art skills to fill in an old design with new life. Think of it like paint-by-numbers where you're allowed to go outside the lines!
I painted the frame a cheery yellow to finish off the look. I love how it breaks up the boring brick wall and makes my porch brighter.
