Dad Award Ribbons for Father's Day
There are certainly enough World's Greatest Dad mugs to prove that everyone thinks their dad is number one. With Father's Day approaching, I thought I would come up with a different way for kids to show their dad that he is the best. How about a DIY printable award ribbon that declares just how awesome he is?
Print and make the ribbon centers
I made this super easy with a cute Dad award ribbon printable that's free for you to download and use.
Start by printing the badges out onto white cardstock and cutting them out. There are three printed award options to choose from, but if you want to say something special, you can use the blank badge to write in your own award. Your kids can write whatever they like, such as World's Funniest Dad, or Best Stepdad Ever.
Then print enough of the white circles to match however many badges you printed. You'll need these for the back of the ribbon. Print them onto white cardstock and cut them out.
Fold the ruffled ribbon
Finally, print a few copies of the red and plaid pattern sheets, to make your ruffles and tails with. Print these pages on regular paper, to make them easier to fold.
Cut the pattern sheets into strips — 2.5" wide for the smaller badges, and 3.5" wide for the larger badges. You'll need 4 or 5 strips for each badge, depending on how full you want to make the ruffle.
Fold the strips, accordion-style, in approximately 1/2" increments.
Use tape or glue to attach strips together at the ends, forming a long strip.
When you're satisfied with your ruffle length, bring the ends together and tape/glue them to form a circle.
Flip the ruffle over (face down), and coax it into a tight circle, so that the hole in the middle is no larger than 1 inch. While holding it in place, squirt some hot glue all around, about an inch from the center.
Press the white backer circle onto the glue and hold until fully cooled. This will hold your ruffle together.
Now flip it over and use more hot glue to attach your badge to the center.
Create the tails
To create the tails for your award ribbon, cut two strips of pattern paper, and notch the ends.
Use tape or hot glue to attach the tails to the back of the ruffle. If you want to make the ribbon wearable, attach a large safety pin to the back with a blob of hot glue.
Once you've made a prize ribbon, it's hard to stop! That's okay, your dad deserves several awards, I'm sure.
