Cozy Scandinavian Christmas Fireplace Decorations
When we were offered the opportunity to work with The Home Depot on making a space in our home cozy and comfortable with one of their electric fireplaces for the holidays, we didn't hesitate to say YES! I had the perfect spot, right off my kitchen, that I wanted to freshen up. I've always loved that Nordic feel and felt it was the way to go for this collaboration. Let's see Chica and I pulled it all together to make a Hygge space.
Decorating with Scandinavian Christmas stars
Remember last week when we shared how to make Scandinavian Christmas stars? This is why we were making them! To hang them, we first took a tree branch from the yard and hunt it from the ceiling using clear fishing line.
Then we used natural twine to hang the stars from the stick at various levels.
We also made a few smaller stars to use as decorations on the Christmas packages tucked underneath the trees.
Using natural elements for a Scandinavian look
We continued adding natural elements to the decor, including a string of wooden beads. We strung natural, grey, and red beads onto the same twine to make a very simple garland, then draped it across the mantle. We used the red beads sparingly to just add a touch of color. We really wanted the warmth of the natural wood to be the star.
The main element on the wall was a gorgeous pre-lit Nordic fir wreath that has a fresh, clean Scandi Christmas look. We decorated it very simply with wooden knobs on the ends of the branches, which tied in nicely with the bead garland.
The final natural elements were a set of three Christmas trees with burlap bases that came pre-lit. We didn't even add any decorations because they worked so well being natural. We placed these on the opposite side of the mantel from the wreath to balance out all of the greenery.
In keeping with Nordic style, the decor on the mantel was very minimal, just a trio of candles. We finished the area off with a cozy faux fur rug, a cable knit stocking, and a knit throw blanket.
Creating comfort with an electric fireplace
The best thing about an electric fireplace? You can put it ANYWHERE! This small area off my kitchen used to lack warmth and a focal point. Adding an electric fireplace was the perfect solution. Look at how nicely it anchors this space and makes sense of all the decor.
Since this fireplace has an adjustable thermostat and a blower, all operated by a remote control, it adds plenty of warmth to the space, so Chica won't be freezing when she pops by for a visit. You can also enjoy the look of the flames without the heat turned on, if you just want a little ambiance. You can even adjust the style of the fire and add or subtract blue flames. Electric fireplaces have come a LONG way recently making them look stylish and realistic in any space.
We can't wait to spend time in our Scandinavian inspired kitchen nook for the holidays. What a great spot to warm up with a cup of tea and enjoy a few minutes of solitude.
