Colorful Tissue Paper Photo Backdrop
I wanted to make an inexpensive and colorful photo backdrop for a party for my kids, so Chica and I were brainstorming ideas. We noticed a piece of pegboard nearby and wondered what we could tuck into those holes to make our backdrop. How about the party girl's staple — tissue paper!
With so many colors available, choosing the color palette for our tissue paper photo backdrop was easy. You can choose any color combination you want, from a solid white for a wedding to pastels for a baby shower, to black and gold for New Year's Eve.
I found a bright combo pack of tissue paper at my local Dollar Store and grabbed a bunch of it. This color combo would make a perfect photo backdrop for a Cinco de Mayo celebration.
To get the pegboard ready, find the center hole and mark it.
To prep the tissue paper, Cut it into strips about 10" long and 5" wide. The size doesn't have to be exact, just aim for something close to that size. And once you get the hang of it, you can easily cut more than one piece at a time by keeping the paper stacked up.
To add a piece of tissue to the pegboard, start by folding it in half, forming a two-ply square about 5"x5".
Then put a chopstick in the center of the square and carefully fold the tissue paper up around it, making sure not to poke through the paper with the stick. (Don't use a skewer; it will be too sharp.)
Then, use the chopstick to carefully push the paper down into one of the holes on the pegboard.
I started in the center with one red tissue poof, then put a square of pink poofs around that. Then yellow, green, blue, etc... I kept adding squares of new colors, repeating them in a pattern.
It's important to have a cat nearby to help make sure your pattern stays on track.
I kept working my way out to the edge, continuing the squares, until the whole pegboard was covered.
When I finished my design, I had my daughter hold up the pegboard while I gently applied some packing tape to the back to help hold the tissue squares in the holes.
The result was so amazing. I just love the bright, fun colors!
We hung our tissue paper creation on the wall at the party and the kids had so much fun taking Instagram-worthy selfies in front of it.
This tissue paper / pegboard technique is completely customizable. You can use any size or shape of board you like, and any colors of tissue paper that match your party theme. It can be more than a photo backdrop, too. Imagine how fun it would look behind a dessert table.
