Chalkboard Cookie Jar for St. Patrick's Day
I loved the Valentine's Day chalkboard cookie jar that I came up with a few weeks ago so much that I decided to make another one to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I figure the best way to celebrate the holiday AND celebrate the joy of cookies was with a classic pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! Fortunately, I already had everything I needed from the first time, so it was quick to customize the jar for this holiday.
I started with the same glass cookie jar from before, which I had already painted with DecoArt's Glass Chalkboard Paint. (See my chalkboard cookie jar tutorial for details.) Then I grabbed the rest of the package of cling vinyl that I had used before.
I cut some small strips of each color to serve as stripes of my rainbow. Then I cut a piece of black vinyl into a cauldron shape that was big enough to cover my rectangle, but with the middle part cut out so that the chalkboard could show through. (Tip: create the cauldron shape with a piece of paper first so that you can get it perfect, then trace that onto the vinyl. This will keep you from wasting vinyl!)
Then I added the rainbow pieces to the top and the cauldron piece around the chalkboard area. What a cute little rainbow.
There was just one thing missing — the gold! To add some gold coins to the cauldron, I cut semi-circles of yellow vinyl and then stuck them along the top edge of the black area.
Finally, I wrote my "Pot o' gold" message with chalk and just like that, I was done.
My Honey was happy that I did this project because it was a good excuse to have cookies. Let's be honest... the cookies are the real treasure at the end of this rainbow!
