Barnwood Ghost Rustic Porch Decor for Halloween
I was working on a project recently with some 80-year old barn wood that came from a local farm here in Kentucky. When I was done, I looked down at my scrap pile and inspiration struck for a new Halloween decor project. Those rough, pointy cut-off ends looked just like ghosts to me!
I picked out the three best shapes and used some black multi-purpose craft paint to quickly paint on some eyes, mouths, and eyebrows.
When I was done, I overlapped them a little to get a nice layout. I needed a little more height on one side since that ghost was pretty short, so I put another wood scrap horizontally and painted "Boo!" on it.
I carefully flipped the pieces over and screwed them together from the back.
To make the ghosts stand up, I cut a triangular bracket from some scrap wood to mount onto the back. For stability, I wanted the ghosts to lean back a little, and not sit straight up, so I cut the bracket to less than 90 degrees.
One quick screw into the brace and it was attached to the back of the ghosts.
That little bit of a lean will keep them from easily tipping over on the porch, and also make them easier to see when they are on down at ground level.
And just like that, my barn wood ghosts were done. I can't believe how cute they are, especially since they were just a pile of wood scraps 20 minutes before.
These rustic ghosts look perfect on my porch, amidst some mums and pumpkins, and definitely give some farmhouse charm to my Halloween decor.
