I was shopping at the garden center recently and noticed a bunch of coated wire "sticks" on display. I wasn't sure what they were at first, and with the twisted coil at one end, I immediately thought they were candle holders. When I looked closer, I saw they were labeled as "plant props" and were meant for holding up fragile saplings and plants. Pretty handy tool for gardening, but that doesn't mean I can't still use them for what I though they were! Let me show you how I turned these 79-cent plant props into really inexpensive outdoor candle holders to line my walkway.

I decided to decorate my candle holders for the Fourth of July so I painted them red, white and blue, using ColorShot spray paint in Stiletto, Marshmallow and Hello Handsome colors. Their paints are now available in even more Home Depot stores or you can easily order online. I love how easy ColorShot is to use, but my favorite thing about these paints might be the fun names!

It took just one quick coat on each to get the coverage I needed.

I asked McGeeky to straighten the center of the spiral, bending it to form more or less a circle. (In retrospect, we probably should have bent them before painting, to avoid chipping.)

Then it was super easy to just poke the wires into the ground along the sidewalk.

Finally, I added my votive candle holders and squeeze the wire tight around them. This is a lot easier if you use a glass holder that has a lip, which will prevent it from sliding through the loop. I found my rimmed glass votive holders at Hobby Lobby but I have also seen them at the Dollar Store and Target.

For just a little over $1 each, I now have a set of cute candle holders to line my walkway for the Fourth of July weekend.
