I am super excited to soon be welcoming my very first nephew into our family. I've known my sister-in-law since she was 8 years old, so I really wanted to make her baby shower a special day for her. Since she has a home in the country, I thought a classic country boy themed baby shower, in the spirit of Tom Sawyer, would be perfect for her.

Rustic fringed gift table in soft denim blue

One of the most impactful pieces of decor for the shower was the gift table's rustic fringed table covering that I shared with you the other day. What an inexpensive way to add a unique look and really bring everything together.

Baby blue country boy party decorations

To decorate the party space, we used our new country boy party printables, which are available for purchase in our Etsy store. This set has tons of printable party items, including pennants to make a custom banner with the baby's name, as well as many other items you'll see throughout the party space.

Southern themed food and drinks

To keep with the theme, I served fresh lemonade and bottles of water (decorated with our printable wrappers) to keep everyone's thirst quenched during the hot summer evening.

I customized our printable menu card, framed it, and placed it on the buffet to let everyone know what was being served.

Environmentally friendly bamboo flatware, tucked into our exclusive kraft paper cutlery bags were perfect for the theme, especially after I stamped them with a cattail rubber stamp that I found.

Of course biscuits are a must at any southern country themed shower, and I served ours with country ham and an array of butter, honey, and jams.

I used our popcorn boxes to serve popcorn for guests to snack on while they waited for the main meal.

To make the dessert table extra special, we had a pie baking contest as part of the party. Guests were invited to bring their homemade pies to enter, and everyone voted on a winner. I made sure to make plenty of our printable pie boxes to send leftover slices home.

For those guests who don't enjoy pie, I also had some chocolate cupcakes on hand.

Country baby shower party games

I am a sucker for fun baby shower games so I made sure we had plenty to break the ice and involve all the guests. We tried to keep them in theme with the Tom Sawyer feel of the party, so we had a fishing game called "Hook the Paci".

All it took was attaching some large hooks to bamboo poles and adding pacifiers to a bucket of water, and we had a simple, but fun, game that the kids especially loved to play.

My favorite game was the frog jumping contest, which fit right in with the Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn feel to this southern baby shower. For the racing platform I taped off some lanes on a piece of laminate board that I had, and then added a finish line at the end.

I bought wind-up frogs and labeled each with a number. Guests picked their favorite frog, winded them up, and set them loose down the lanes. It was so fun watching how far the frogs managed to get before winning — or falling off the side! We ran multiple heats so that everyone got a chance to play.

We had a couple of paper games, too, which I put on mini clipboards to make it easier for everyone to write. We played the classic "Gift BINGO" game while the mom-to-be opened gifts, and a "Guess the Price" game as an ice breaker before the meal. These game boards (as well as the pie voting slips) are all part of our baby shower printable set on Etsy.

The game winners won prizes, but they really loved the giant award ribbons the most! There are several award ribbon options in our printables set, which also make fun decorations on the walls or tables.

A unique twilight silhouette backdrop for the dessert table

For the dessert table, I went a little over the top with decoration. I had this grand idea to have a silhouette of a boy fishing, with a twilight sky behind him. We started by cutting large silhouette shapes out of plywood, then painting them black.

For the twilight sky backdrop, we used the same technique we used to create the fringed table covering, but with multiple colors to resemble the night sky. And rather than use hot glue like we did for the table covering, we chose to sew these rows of fringe onto the backdrop, since there was so much more weight with this large panel. We wanted to make sure nothing fell off onto the pies.

This table held the homemade pies everyone brought for the contest. What a delicious touch this was to the party, and a great way to make the workload a little lighter on me as the hostess.

Southern baby shower party favors

I couldn't let the guests leave empty-handed, so I made a coordinating party favor. I filled our 4 ounce plastic jars with lavender bath salts, and added one of the water bottle wraps from our printable set around it. This was such an easy and inexpensive shower favor to make.

Everyone had a great time at the party and the new mom went home with some wonderful presents to help set up her nursery.
